Step 7: Roof Insulation

Your insulation sheets are then spiked into place. These 4x8 sheets have 7/16 Oriented Strand Board (OSB) adhered to the upper side. After roofing felt is placed over the OSB, the roof is ready for your final roofing matrial -- shakes, shingles, metal, etc. This 5-1/2 inches of insulation gives the roof a composite R-value of 26. For colder climates or if the homeowner wants a more energy efficient home in milder climates, additional insulation may be purchased from and installed by Appalachian Log Homes.
